Help Completion of the Solar Aquaponics System

Aloha family and friends!

90% of the food sold in Hawaii is imported from the mainland, this means the produce has been on a cargo boat crossing the ocean and sitting in boat docks for at least 3 – 5 days prior to it hitting the local grocery store.   In addition to the produce being in transit for those days the local consumer is also now paying a higher price for the produce to cover the importing fees.  So not only are families not getting the freshest of food, they are also paying a higher cost.  When I moved to Hawaii 5 years ago, this was one of my biggest struggles for myself.

Then in 2014 I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Hypothyroid, this new health issue made me that much more aware of what I was putting into my body.  This prompted me to want to start growing my own food.  I was fortunate enough to come across a program through the University of Hawaii called GoFarm Hawaii; a program that teaches you how to become a local farmer and grow a business. This was then the birth of Homegrown Aloha came to be.  Fast forward to 2019 and Homegrown Aloha is in its 3rd year of growing providing fresh and local produce to the community.

Being that this is an island, land can be scarce to farm on this is why we are building out an Aquaponics system that can be ran off of solar, so no matter the space we can grow fresh produce.    We recently started the aquaponics project but as we all know unexpected things can happen when building out a new project, and that’s just what happened.   We unfortunately ran into some issues that have now taken us back to the drawing board to complete our Solar Aquaponics system and at this time are currently underfunded to complete the project.

I am reaching out to family and friends and the community to help our cause at Homegrown Aloha  to continue to bring fresh food to the community,  to make a donation towards the completion of our Solar Aquaponics System.   With your donation you can help bring fresh produce to local families that is free of pesticides, grown locally, naturally, and with love <3

All who donate will have a plant dedicated to them or a someone of their choosing on the farm with a plaque. So you can see the growth of your donation.
