Solar for Sherpas

On February 9, we(Kelly Lovejoy and Shawn Aguilar) are heading to Nepal to bring a sense of intimacy through story-telling and photojournalism. As the world becomes more connected, we see little room for loneliness on this planet. Each of our projects are an effort to shine light on the darkness of divisiveness, and promote our human connection. We will share this project under our network name, Compassion Flash .
Compassion flash will create a network of shared experiences to reflect our common humanity. Our first project, Solar for Sherpas, will nurture compassion by sharing short stories of the humanity in those we meet. Shawn, as a skilled camera man with a dream of photojournalism, will be capturing photos. With my background in anthropology, I will be interviewing and reporting the experiences to share with you. To keep our relationships symbiotic in nature, each person who lets us interview them along our path will recieve a solar light.
We chose solar lights as the focus trade for our first #Compassion Flash , as we have both experienced first-hand blackouts are a fact of every day life around the world. This problem was always prevelant in Nepal, but the awareness of the issue became heightened after the deadly earthquakes that ravaged the area a couple years ago. Some communities high in the Himalayas are difficult to reach, and when their flashlight batteries die, replacing them in these small villages is not easy. Since we will be hiking through these villages, the majority of our lights will go into the hands of these hosts high in the Himalayas.
We are incredibly grateful for any amount of money, ideas or love that you can give to help us get this project off the ground. We know that our community is always reflecting the divine in your own lives, so we are honored to have your help in reflecting that light globally.
The deeper we connect with one another, the wider we expand our personal perspectives.
