Solidarity Fund for HBH Workers United!

Howard Brown Health (HBH) is a network of medical clinics and social services organizations focused on the needs of Chicago's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community. On August 9th, 2022, 470 HBH workers won their union election with 97% voting yes. On Saturday, November 19th, the 20 person bargaining committee attended their first contract negotiations with a dozen union members also attending to observe. The bargaining team presented 23 contract proposals aiming to improve conditions for workers and patients. In response, Howard Brown stated they want to fire 100 new union members by Christmas. Management's very first proposal in union bargaining was a voluntary separation proposal which includes a week’s worth of severance pay for most employees and insurance that cuts off before the New Year.

While HBH workers are fighting this blatant union busting, this throws good faith negotiations moving forward into serious question. These workers provide the most vital healthcare to the queer community in Chicago and it’s appalling that this is where HBH leadership’s priorities lie going into the winter. HBH workers are about to enter an intense struggle with a management actively set on busting their union. Therefore, this page will now serve as an ongoing solidarity fund, and potential strike fund, for the HBH workers as they work to protect patient care, their coworkers, and their working conditions from HBH’s Executive Leadership Team(ELT).

Donate to this fund to support these courageous workers!

Now more than ever, HBH is an essential resource to the LGBTQ+ community, and the workers have been embroiled in a fight against management to continue to provide care.
