Solidarity Saturday

My name is Kachiside Madu, and I am a professional photographer from Sacramento. I am passionate about serving others, specifically those who are less fortunate and/or marginalized. In the summer of 2020, I launched the, Feel The Bag Challenge, which provided over 300 bags of love, compassion, clothes, and hygienic products to our displaced community. People who hadn’t felt SEEN in years finally felt loved, and as one huge community, humanity shined bright. Thanks to you all, we continued this summer project for two additional years. Satisfied but not content, the community and I wanted to make more consistent and impactful changes.

By the grace of God and the compassionate folks who have paid it forward, we used our previous services to apply for the City of Sac Arts Grant, which provided funding to continue the fight for our folks. From December ’22 to October ’23, Solidarity Saturday, a monthly event every second Saturday, was in play. United, we stand in solidarity with our folks, providing them with basic necessities: love, laughs, humanity, and a place to be seen and heard. Solidarity Saturday fulfilled our desires, which has led to a month-long exhibition bringing awareness to displacement while acknowledging the impact we all have made on Sacramento’s forgotten population.

It brings me tremendous joy to announce this exhibit because it is pure, purposeful, and community-driven. The people we are highlighting are just that: People. People, who often aren’t seen as such and have not been provided with an opportunity to share their truths. As we pivot into October and the rest of the year, I have a giant ask of our community. Let’s unite again to raise funds to continue our Solidarity Saturday efforts. Thank you in advance for your consideration and/or donation.
