Someone shot my cat! Help him become a tripod

Mr. Business, our sweet and handsome 2yr old cat came limping home on January 9th after being outside for a short amount of time. We immediately knew something was wrong. We were afraid he had gotten hit but hoped he had maybe just been bitten in a fight instead. As it was Sunday, our options were limited to the high priced local ER vet. We brought him in with high hopes that things were going to be manageable but what we found out blindsided us.

X-rays showed that Mr. Business had been shot and that his Humerus had been shattered. The only course of action... amputation. We are devastated. The only thing more shocking than the diagnoses was the treatment cost, an estimated 4,500 dollars.  Given that the surgery is urgent we are not in a good position to shop around for care. We were in the process of shopping for insurance for our newer cats but have no coverage for Mr. Business as of this shooting.

We've considered euthanasia as his treatment is not something we can afford but we feel our sweet young cat deserves a chance and have been told he will still have excellent quality of life as an amputee.

We have filed a police report but given New Orleans' track record with prosecuting animal cruelty cases, we are not holding our breath. We are considering offering a reward for information that will help us find, prosecute and sue the person responsible.
