Help Make There's Something Inhuman in the Woods!

Hi, I'm D. Ryan Mowry, and I am a lifelong film nerd, passionate physical media collector, and filmmaker. I made my last film back in 2013, a short art-horror film called CLUSTER (check it out here if you'd like!), and before that I made a full-length campy superhero comedy called Defective Man! Since then life in the corporate world has gotten in the way of making anything new. But things have changed and I am making movies again! I just crewed on a local short here in Denver and in the last few months have written multiple scripts, including this one: There's Something Inhuman in the Woods, and I would love YOUR help to get it made.

This is going to be an homage to 80s/90s shot-on-video backwoods slasher horror, but made with modern equipment and modern facilities. This is not "found footage," this is remembering back to the days that an aspiring filmmaker could make a movie with a VHS camcorder and 2 VHS decks to edit on, and sell it to the local video store. The script is limited to just a few locations and there are only a handful of characters in the entire movie, so it has been built to be a streamlined production.

The last feature film I made, Defective Man!, took almost 5 years. Inhuman is planned as Defective Man's antithesis - I want to make this film next spring and release it by the fall. Will you help me get this done???

We are looking for an additional $1,500 (or more) to support this film. With that money we can:

Afford the cost of the effects, both practical and a small amount of CGI (gunshots, etc. - no CGI gore, that's all going to be practical!)
Fund a self-released physical disc release and possibly a VHS release
Be able to submit to film festivals

This movie is an opportunity for me to get back into the world of writing and directing, and it's a chance for you to help get an homage to a really fun, specific sub-genre of horror off the ground. With your help, we can make this a really kick-ass movie without needing the support of a studio or venture capitalists. Let's make some independent, bloody, funny, and scary art!

This is going to be a difficult shoot. We are going to go hard and shoot a feature in 5 days. Limiting the feature to 5 shooting days will allow for a few things: We have a greater chance of finishing the film due to a smaller time commitment on the cast and crew's part, we will be able to make it true to the aesthetic of SOV horror (because moving hat fast we're gonna make mistakes and they are gonna end up in the film!), and it will allow us to have a strong, focused cast and crew who will be in their element for a solid week.

This also brings risks - if we have any issues that prevent us from shooting (weather, illness, etc) making it up will be difficult. We will get it done, but it will be harder than the average. We also are going to need to have a cast and crew that will get along for 5 days straight through testing times, and THAT can be its own challenge!

However, Ryan has had experience with all of these issues between the filming of his own short films, and especially Defective Man! which required on-set shifting of priorities or plans almost every day of shooting - but it got done. And this one will too.
