Sommer Hamilton “Strength in the Storm”
On October 13th, Sommer went in for a colonoscopy and was told they found a large, 6cm rectosigmoid mass which he biopsied & they also removed a polyp. The path report from the biopsy states the mass is "moderately differentiated colonic adenocarcinoma & the polyp was a sessile serrated adenoma." Sommer has Stage 3 Colorectal cancer.
Sommer will begin phase one of her treatments starting December 7 at Vanderbilt. She will spend five weeks in Nashville commuting on the weekends back home. Consequently, This will leave Sommer out of work and away from her husband and six children. The daily radiation treatments will be hardship enough but financially this will be extremely difficult and draining for her and all of her immediate family.
After Phase 1, she will have six to eight weeks for her body to react to the chemo. Then her surgery will take place at UAB. Once she has recovered, Sommer will start Phase Three consisting of oral and IV chemotherapy. After resting, she will hopefully have her final surgery and be on the road to a full recovery.
We, as her best friends and photography colleagues, know the hardships of owning a small business and not being able to physically/emotionally work. We are asking for donations to assist with her travel expense, expenses from being out of work and help for what else may incur during this difficult time for Sommer and her family.
Let’s shower Sommer, our selfless friend,
with love as she has graciously done for others.
We love you Sommer!
