My name is Sonia. I used to own a home, I have an advanced degree, but leaving an untenable situation means I need help for the next two months or a little longer until my complex post-divorce case is resolved. While I cannot get deeply into the facts of my case, it is in the record that when I was married, I transferred the house I owned to my husband's name weeks before the wedding to get out of bankruptcy and build a life with a man who has now just yesterday acted such a fool in court that the post-divorce contempt hearing over money I spent to sell the house and pay him the half the court awarded him while he refused to even cooperate with the sale or clean out. My portion of the equity paid the laborers and agents who made it happen. And as court is not until the end of February, I need mutual aid to bridge my gap for myself and my adult daughter who's still a teen. The court had to declare me indigent in the post-divorce to even afford the filings.
My lawyer has worked for free since the summer and is committed, but her budget is pinched. While not expensive, the subpoenas she will need to file aren't free nor her gas to meet with me, and I'd like enough to give her something as she's done well over a hundred hours of work for free with no end in sight. This horrible year has taught me what mutual aid can do, and I will do everything to pay it forward.
My January bills need to be paid as soon as possible: I owe partial rent, my car payment, the payment for the car I bought my daughter when times were better, the utility bill (2/3 of which he was ordered to be paid from our marital residence's bill), my 6-month insurance premium, phone bill, bank overdraft, and gas and food money getting to and from work. That does not even cover my credit cards, but will keep me housed, fed, and employed at my day job and doing Uber until next month at a total of $6,724.96, which will also let me get the last of my furniture out of the storage I'm locked out of.
A lot of those bills are quarterly, so for February I need much less, only $4,177.10. Some of this I can cover from my employment.
I have always worked hard and with luck, the stunts my ex pulled in court yesterday mean he will be required to pay me and will pay quickly. Nothing is certain though, and my attorney told me to ask for what I need and a cushion because unexpected things happen. I have lost my mother this year and most of my dreams, and I hope you can help me rebuild so I can be a blessing to others.
