March for Missing People in the Dominican Republic

Donation protected
Jesús Cuevas disappeared on October 6th, 2022, joining an alarming number of people disappearing in the country.

10,000* individuals have disappeared in the Dominican Republic in the last five years. That is approximately six people a day. In this year alone, there are over 300 reported disappearances; about one person disappears daily.

However, unlike many countries, in the Dominican Republic, there are no mechanisms in place for disappearances: no Amber Alert system, no databases, set procedures, communication lines, or technological equipment. Even more concerning, the investigation team for disappearances only has 12 members in a country with 11 million inhabitants.

After applying an incredible amount of pressure, we were able to push authorities to find Jesús, who we found out was murdered after a MONTH long search. Jesús disappearance introduced to many the heartbreaking reality of having a missing loved one in the Dominican Republic. Our team, Son Irremplazables, began advocating for change for the family members of missing folk, many of who are ignored because of their economic or social status. Every day we are contacted by family and friends of missing people seeking help, looking to be heard, hoping for assistance in finding their loved one.

WE CAN’T DO IT ALONE. WE NEED YOUR HELP. THE FAMILIES NEED YOUR HELP!

On December 10th, 2022, we are organizing national marches in Santo Domingo and Santiago, demanding authorities find answers for these families, and approve an Amber Alert system, a legislative bill already in congress to create the first infrastructure for disappearances in the country.

The funds raised will make it possible for family members around the country to attend the march, many of who are of minimal means and incur astronomical expenses looking for their loved ones. The money raised will also help to create posters and materials of the people who have disappeared, as well as pay for all costs associated with an event of this importance.

Please consider donating $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 or whatever amount possible. We appreciate any help you can provide. Your contribution will create a massive difference for these families and the country. Thank you.
