Jesus and I would like to start by thanking everyone that has been here for us. We are overwhelmed with love, prayers, messages, calls, visits in the hospital, and the help we have received this last month.
On Mother’s Day we had found out some unexpected news. We found out we were expanding to a family of 5. We couldn’t believe it! We were excited, thrilled, and nervous since we pretty much were starting all over. All our family and friends felt the same way for us since they knew how bad I had baby fever!!
This pregnancy had been the easiest of my three. No vomiting, no nausea, no morning sickness, just tired all the time. I would take naps during the day, but who wouldn’t like that right? I was even surprised that I was only gaining the baby weight not all the additional weight that I did gain with my first two. I started feeling baby kicking and moving at about 16 weeks. Best feeling ever! As baby grew, I continued to feel her kick and move and do cartwheels. Fast forward to my bday in Sept. where we had our gender reveal and found out we were having a baby GIRL!! Omg we couldn’t believe it was pink! I mean, we felt it but it was just to be able to confirm it after 5 months of speculation!
With holidays approaching, we decided to do it differently this year and start by visiting North Carolina. We planned a fun thanksgiving in a cabin with family, maternity shoot, as all the little cousins run around.

Well on Nov 20th, just 2 days shy of 32 weeks, my water broke. Went in not knowing what exactly was going on since it wasn’t much but they admitted me and started protocol to prevent any contractions and allowing baby to cook a little longer in my womb. Our thanksgiving was spent at the hospital monitoring our baby girl Sophia. Early Saturday morning my contractions started and later that afternoon I was being prepped for an emergency cesarean due to an infection. On November 25th at 7pm our baby girl Sophia Carolina Zapata was born. She was taken by the NICU team right away and they were finishing up with me. While I was in PACU recovering we waited for news on our babygirl. Doctors came in and explained that Sophia has suffered some complications and needed to be flown to Miami Children’s Hospital. While Jesus rushed over to be by her side I ended up in ICU that same night. While I was unconscious and in critical condition our baby girl passed on November 27, 2023. I was still in critical condition for another 5 days but I know Sophie saved my life and she became my angel. On Friday Dec 1st, my family and I received news that I was in better condition to move from ICU to Med unit. On Saturday I was transferred and settled in for another week but with my health at a much better state. At this point all my blood work is getting back to normal little by little compared to where I started, which was barely living. I’m receiving dialysis at this point which with the grace of God it’s only temporary. I am happy to say I have made it out of the hospital and now recovering at home. We ask that you pray for our whole family and respect our privacy in this delicate time. Any little donation would help us be able to give our angel baby Sophia her memorial she deserves! Thank you for taking the time to read this and god bless every one of you!
