Raising Funds for HBCU Students

Who are we?
We are "New Birth 38", a close-knit group of Sorority sisters who pledged at Morgan State University in 1973. As we eagerly approach our 50th Anniversary this fall, coinciding with Homecoming, we extend a heartfelt invitation to join us in making a significant impact.
Helping College Students
Our mission as dedicated Alumnae is to create a lasting legacy of support for the next generation. With this goal in mind, we aspire to donate $25,000 or more. This contribution will directly benefit (10) deserving students, enabling them to purchase essential textbooks, alleviate the financial burden of meals, and alleviate the mental strain often accompanying pursuing higher education.
Morgan State University is a beacon of excellence among Maryland's historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). However, recent developments, such as the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on race-conscious admissions policies, have introduced uncertainty to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. This comes at a time when legislation seeking to curtail these crucial initiatives and the teaching of race-related subjects has gained momentum. The implications are profound, particularly for HBCUs like Morgan State, which may experience a surge in enrollment without adequate preparation.
One of the pressing challenges faced by HBCU students is the struggle to secure safe and affordable housing. Dormitories are already stretched to full capacity, with additional housing not expected until 2024. Furthermore, the cost of education is not fully covered by tuition, fees, and auxiliary services – only 82% is accounted for. 85% of Morgan State students rely on financial aid to pursue their dreams.
The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice research highlights the distressing reality of food and housing insecurity among HBCU students. This pressing issue directly affects academic performance and well-being.
Why We Need Your Help
The uphill battle faced by financially struggling students often impacts retention rates and the institution's reputation. Our commitment as "New Birth 38" is to reverse this trend, fostering an environment where every student can flourish and achieve their potential. We've raised $13,000 towards our goal, but we need help. We humbly request your support in reaching our target. By contributing to our cause, you're not just helping us; you're empowering 35 baby boomers to give back and make a genuine difference. Your generosity will enable us to leave an indelible mark on the lives of these students, ensuring they receive the resources they need to thrive.
Join us in this noble endeavor and be a catalyst for positive change. Your donation is an investment in the future of education, diversity, and the next generation of leaders. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable tomorrow. Please share our story on your platforms with all your contacts.
With gratitude and anticipation, we thank you!
