"Il Giorno della Bestia" - Folk Horror Short Film

Nel 1946, una giovane coppia affronta l’ascesa di un’aspra montagna per cercare un futuro migliore oltre il confine Italo-Francese, ma una guida misteriosa e una Bestia che esige sangue metteranno alla prova la loro sopravvivenza.

Ciao! Sono Martina, e sono una regista. Per me il cinema è sempre stato il mezzo attraverso cui possiamo esplorare mondi nascosti e creature fantastiche che esistono solo nella nostra immaginazione.

Con "Il Giorno della Bestia" ho voluto creare un dark fantasy che affonda le sue radici in una storia vera, quella dei miei nonni paterni, che nel 1946 attraversarono il Moncenisio a piedi per raggiungere la Francia. Sono particolarmente affezionata a questo racconto, e ho deciso di trasformarlo in una fiaba cupa, mescolando realtà e fantasia.

SINOSSI

1946. Incinta e in cerca di un futuro oltre il confine francese, Erminia affronta un viaggio clandestino tra le montagne con il marito Edoardo. La loro guida è Volpe, una donna selvaggia come la terra che calpesta. Quando le guardie li scoprono, la loro fuga si trasforma in tragedia: Edoardo viene ferito a morte e, mentre il gruppo si rifugia tra antiche pietre sacrificali, un’ombra emerge dal bosco. La Bestia, creatura leggendaria della montagna, reclama il suo tributo di sangue.

Volpe confessa il suo segreto: per anni ha nutrito il mostro per proteggere i villaggi, ma davanti alla vita nel ventre di Erminia, qualcosa in lei cambia. In un ultimo atto di sfida, attira la Bestia su di sé, mentre Erminia corre verso la salvezza. All’alba, la montagna tace. Erminia continua il suo cammino, mentre, nella foresta, Volpe è ancora in piedi.

La caccia non è finita.

Per realizzare il nostro cortometraggio con la qualità che merita, abbiamo bisogno del vostro supporto. Con un budget di 25.000 euro, potremo retribuire tutte le figure coinvolte e, soprattutto, realizzare uno dei nostri sogni più grandi: creare la Bestia e portarla sullo schermo.

Grazie al bando Nuovo IMAIE abbiamo già raccolto 12.500 euro, e i fondi regionali del Piemonte ci hanno supportato con altri 5.000 euro. Ora mancano gli ultimi 7.500 euro per completare il progetto. A Family Story

Hi! My name is Martina, and I’m a director. To me, cinema has always been a way to explore hidden worlds and fantastic creatures that exist only in our imagination.

With The Day of the Beast, I wanted to create a dark fantasy rooted in a true story—the story of my paternal grandparents, who crossed the Moncenisio on foot in 1946 to reach France. This tale is very close to my heart, and I chose to turn it into a dark fairy tale, blending reality with fantasy.

SYNOPSIS

1946 - Pregnant and seeking a future beyond the French border, Erminia embarks on a perilous journey through the mountains with her husband, Edoardo. Their guide is Volpe, a woman as wild as the land she treads. When the guards discover them, their escape turns to tragedy: Edoardo is mortally wounded, and as the group takes refuge among ancient sacrificial stones, a shadow emerges from the forest. The Beast, a legendary creature of the mountain, has come to claim its blood tribute.

Volpe reveals her secret: for years, she has fed the Beast to protect the villages. But faced with the life growing inside Erminia, something in her shifts. In a final act of defiance, she lures the creature toward herself as Erminia runs for safety.

At dawn, the mountain falls silent. Erminia keeps walking.

In the forest, Volpe is still standing.

The hunt is not over.
