Soundproofing and Security for Community Space

Donation protected
We've recently re-opened our music studio in the heart of Wivenhoe after a really difficult year due to the the Covid-19 pandemic. The business nearly didn't survive, but due to overwhelming support from the community and an overall demand for a local music studio for the community, we decided to save the business and turn it into a creative space for musicians and other creatives alike. We worked quickly, ran various tests throughout our trial period and spent personal funds, and opened officially on the 1st of August. Since then, we've been booked nearly every evening, and we are growing more rapidly than we envisioned.

We sought advice and invested a lot of our own money into soundproofing the unit to avoid conflicts with neighbours, but as we've gone along we've faced some challenges due to dealing with an old building (i.e we did the roof, then problems arose with the floor etc). Some of the work had to be undone as the technique applied didn't work in this unit, and now we are urgently in need of your help to fully soundproof the unit, add more security, and help us purchase some much needed equipment to make Wivenhoe SoundLab the best community studio it can be for rehearsal, recording, and other creative practices.

After such a difficult year for the creative industry, we defenitely feel we cannot lose this space we have lovingly created and kept upon the community's request - we will remain affordable (only £10 per hour to rehearse) and the fact that we are based in the heart of Wivenhoe prevents local musicians from having to commute too far to be able to practice.

Please help us raise £3000 so we can complete the following ASAP and ensure everyone is content, safe, and happy playing music.

  • Fully soundproofing the studio with help from professionals - removing the floor, filling with acoustic insulation, creating a soundproofing underlay and a wooden floor coverage to ensure no noise escapes from the floor to neighbouring buisnesses and residents neighbouring the buisness centre. We will need to close the studio for several days to complete this work, which will result in loss of revenue, which is included in this estimate to ensure we still make the rent and can pay those involved in work.
  • Creating a room inside a room and fully insulating the roof and all the walls using rockwool, lots of wood and other materials, and labour costs.
  • An automatic lock entry system to increase our security and ensure patrons feel safe and can play uninterrrupted
  • An upgraded camera system for inside the unit for the same reasons as above and a telphone system that links in with the camera system for improved security and management of the studio
  • Recording and Rehearsal equipment (condenser microphones and SM58 mics, new amps, more and spare XLR cables and guitar leads, software subscriptions)
  • Air conditioning unit

We would really appreciate any help you could possibly give to help Wivenhoe SoundLab complete soundproofing, additional security, and get the remaining equipment we need to become a self-sufficient community space with creativity at the heart.

Thanks you for reading and we hope you can help us keep our dream alive!

Much love
