Soup After Dark (SAD)

"My name is Nate. I am fundraising for the marginalized, disenfranchised and people seeking refuge from the cold. For those who are hungry, including myself, access to food becomes exponentially more difficult and dangerous during the winter. Hunger doesn’t take the weekend (or winter) off, and hardship doesn’t punch out at 5:00 PM. Soup After Dark (SAD) will ensure those who need it can rely on at least one hot meal a day during the coldest five months of the year."

The Need
There is a gap in food service to feed the hungry in downtown Regina. Street Culture Project received funding to operate "Soup in the Park" from May – October. I have coined the "Soup After Dark" expansion program to provide consistent hot meals to those in downtown Regina who need it most from December to April. With the help of volunteers, local partners and corporate donors, InfiNATE Initiatives is mobilizing food at the community level.

"A healthy, productive lifestyle or regulated routine becomes absolutely unobtainable when a person is in survival mode or a constant state of crisis. Without stable food security, all else becomes a secondary want; anything becomes a luxury. Even sleep. Losing Soup in the Park again this winter is exhausting and leaves people on the bottom end of society segwayed from support and slams an already fragile system into a brick wall of mistrust. I am rallying local partners willing to put boots on the ground to change that."

The Plan
Soup After Dark will provide meals daily at 5:00 PM from Sunday December 4 to Sunday April 30, 2023. Each day, food will be prepared for 100 people. Volunteers, including myself, will serve near Victoria Park on City Square Plaza, a known location to many.
