The South Oldham Rotary Club in collaboration with the Bridge Kids Ghana group is seeking support to expand the Bridge Kids International School in Dawhanya, Ghana. The Bridge Kids Ghana School, started on September 11, 2017 with 7 students. They now have 182 students, 10 teachers, one administrator and three non-teaching staff. The school has acquired land adjacent to the original structure to expand the school to include classrooms for a pre-school, primary and junior high school departments, offices, library, computer laboratory, a science laboratory, a playground and more. There are also plans for Tai Kwando lessons, a school band, along with the introduction of other international languages such as Spanish and German. BK Ghana has laid the foundation and footings for the new building and is preparing to complete the construction as soon as possible. The South Oldham Rotary Club is seeking donations to procure a Rotary Global Grant to assist BK Ghana in achieving their goals of providing quality, affordable education to children in their community regardless of economic status. Rotary District 6710 has committed to matching the South Oldham Rotary Club dollar-for-dollar up to $11,000, and the Rotary Global Grant will provide an 80% match of the District's contributions. So for every $1 that you donate, it will be matched with $1.80.

Quality primary school education is an ongoing problem in Ghana. Schools are generally overcrowded and ineffective due to a lack of materials and high teacher to student ratios. The expansion of the school will improve the quality of education and the facilities. With better educational offerings and a more appealing setting, the school will be able to attract families who can pay tuition, making the school more sustainable while allowing scholarships for promising students without means. Adding a quality school in the community will improve educational outcomes in the area and ultimately lead to better economic and social prospects for all families involved. The school building will also be a neighborhood asset, creating a gathering space and educational and recreational facilities for the broader community.
