South Pole and Mount Vinson Expedition 2022

Dear friends,

My name is Dalip Singh Shekhawat: I am a passionate educator, mountaineer, and ultra runner with over 19 years of experience. I summited Mt. Everest in May of 2019. I completed a 250 km ultra-marathon in the blistering heat of the Sahara Desert in October 2021. In June 2022, I completed another 230 km ultra-marathon in the gruelling Amazon rain forest.

I am reaching out to all my friends and members of the community to help me raise funds so that I can take part in one of the ultimate adventures on the Earth to the South Pole and Mount Vinson. (Antarctica's highest mountain)

As you all are aware among the biggest threats to the poles is rapid climate change. All through this expedition, my focus would be to create awareness about climate change. During the expedition, I will take pictures of the astounding landscape, and observe the impact of climate change on the temperature, wind speed, crevasses, ice drifts, melting of ice, and Antarctic wildlife.

During my past adventures, I observed a huge impact of climate change on the Mountains, Deserts and Rainforest, especially during the Mt Everest Summit in 2019 I observed the impact of climate change on the highest peak of the world: the ice pinnacles were melted into the rocky ground, Khumbu icefalls were less stable, the crevasses were wider and more in number as compared to past years. High lakes were swollen due to the melting. Each year Mt Everest is losing more than a vertical foot and half of the ice. It also threatens water supplies for millions of people downstream across much of Asia and the world.

The Mountain Professional company will host this expedition from December 4 – 26, 2022. It is my goal to participate and represent Canada and Manitoba in this expedition. Thank you for your generosity and support. All donors will get access to a post-expedition presentation.

The outdoors is where my heart and passion genuinely belong. In 2002 and 2006, I did the Basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses at the Western Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in India. In addition, through WHMI, I organized and led numerous expeditions in India. As a result, I climbed 17 mountain peaks. In addition, I ran over 33 ultra marathons in Zanskar and Karakorum of northern India, Himalayan ranges of Nepal, Arakan Yoma of Andaman Island, Prairies of Manitoba, Canadian Rockies in Alberta, the Sierra Madre in Mexico, Alps in the Chamonix, France, and Andes ranges of Peru.

In 2020 I founded a running group named “Rising Runners” with the vision to encourage the community to participate in environmental awareness campaigns and adventure sports. Rising Runners’ key activities that backed climate change, involved tree plantation, trail clean-up, organizing educational hikes and camping trips for kids and adults, and collaborating and supporting countless agencies with fundraising and charity events.
