I have set up this go fund me page to support my family and community in South Sudan. Currently, my home Country is experiencing catastrophic floods, in particular, Bor Town and my region of Jalle Payam.

The community has had to leave this region as it is completely under water. This has left up to 400,000 people displaced with woman, children and the vulnerable most effected. Unfortunately, there is a lack of support from the global community and with the current Covid-19 pandemic, it has been overshadowed as an immediate concern.

The State government in conjunction with NGOs have successfully constructed a dyke only to protect some markets, the river port and a few government facilities. Attempts to claim more areas from water have been unsuccessful. As a result, many people are suffering from a lack of shelter, hunger and illness- this has left many scared and confused to deal with this catastrophic moment. The only hope is left for God to intervene.

Attached are some photos captured from within Jonglei state and smaller residential areas known as blocks/estates. They have been deserted by the residents who are now desperately seeking high grounds in the forest in order to erect simple shelters for their children.

Who is it affecting?

This is currently affecting all residents within the area. The lack of functioning latrines has led to poor hygiene conditions, which in turn, has contributed to a huge outbreak of many illnesses including water-bone diseases, malaria and diarrheal diseases. The people of Bor Town are also experiencing famine as there has been a significant loss of crops, cattle and businesses.

The situation of Jonglei State is an URGENT emergency. In response, I have confined myself only to my community of Jalle Payam who have been uprooted from their land and are now sheltering on high grounds as IDPs near Bor Town, Malual-agorbar, Wunchei and Kondai. There are currently around 500 households displaced in the Jalle Payam region.
