Southtown Farmstand Market Community Shelter

Donation protected

The Farmstand Market at the end of Alexander Avenue has been growing for the last 5 years! The location continues to grow as a gathering place for the community.  Most recently hosting a market for locally-made goods and a hub for local CSA pickups.  It is a destination for friends to create neighborhood events.   (See the video below!)

Much gratitude to everyone who contributed and helped raise funds! Including our anonymous match donor!!  We are still looking for funds since the current expenses are at $17,700 and we expect more as lighting and shade canopies get created!

The tent canopies donated by the community have provided needed shade from the hot summer sun.  These temporary shelters,  do not protect from the rain and wind nor, accommodate growing numbers of vendors and attendees.

The more permanent shelter will provide a home for the growing community of new artists, first-time farmers, non-profits, youth projects and more.  A year-round shelter with water and power allows for expanded classes, workshops and gatherings.    Due to this being an area open to the public, county building permits are required including submitting an engineered building plan.  To allow for an open and flexible floor plan, a pole building with steel trusses is required. The county had already approved a farmstand building on the private property owned by Flicker & Fir and building designs have been approved!!

On Octobe2021 David and Michael picked up the the Pole Barn components in PDX with the help of  Rainshine Family Farm's tractor and trailer.

The final screw went in and building passed the final inspection on November 15th!!  We are so happy with how it looks!

Due to pandemic pricing, everything is coming in more expensive than originally expected. Total to date is $17,700.  ALL labor has been donated with Michael Viliardos leading the willing workers!

Next up is lighting! Moving the storage sheds and cables for summer shade panels.

The current uncertainty in the world at large finds people looking within and locally as we return to timeless approaches and proven solutions, building on the strengths of community.

Please join us in helping to strengthen the human family and future generations starting locally with this community!

All contributions are appreciated with gratitude.  Walk, bike, drive or mail checks/cash to: Flicker & Fir 1470 SE Alexander Ave 97333
