Southtowns Fitness Center
The Gym at Lake and Main in Hamburg, NY has been a steady part of many of our lives for as long as I can remember. Regardless of the name Fitness Factory, Gold’s Gym, and now Southtown’s Fitness Center it has been locally owned by two brothers who love Hamburg, it’s people, and especially the members who have relied on them to help maintain good health and attain their fitness goals.
The current pandemic has forced them to close since March of this year. Taking advantage of the opportunity to make improvements that could only be made in the absence of members, Chuck and Rich show up and work hard every day, continuing to remodel, clean, obtain new equipment and rearrange the gym to satisfy social distancing requirements. This was done with an optimistic attitude that the gym would reopen; May 1st, then May 15th, then June 1st ... It has to be June 17th during phase III. Although tattoo parlors, nail salons, hair cutting, etc. can resume business, Southtown’s Fitness Center will remain closed.
Not only are gyms not included in the phase III reopening, NYS doesn't have a date when they think it can reopen. Countless gyms have already gone under, we are a short time before the collapse of Southtown’s Fitness Center. It is not owned by a deep-pocketed corporation that can sustain continued losses. The fitness mainstay of Hamburg will be lost forever. Chuck and Rich need the community’s assistance. Let’s give them our support
