Southwell Dry Cleaners Covid Support Fund

Hi, my name is Kerry and I am the owner of Southwell Dry Cleaners and Laundrette.

 

Southwell Drycleaners has been in my family for over 25 years, I took over ownership back in 2017 prior to Covid. We have always been a successful and busy shop servicing Southwell and surrounding villages. These last 2 years have been a real struggle and without sounding like every other business owner, we have been hit hard.

 

What people may not know is that dry cleaners and laundrettes like us, were deemed essential businesses throughout covid, so we were allowed to continue trading. What the government failed to realise is that nearly every business we serviced was closed and all our loyal customers no longer needed us.

 

Leisure and entertainment industries, hotels and guest houses, sporting events were all CLOSED. Not only this but people were working from home which meant dry cleaning was no longer needed. Weddings were cancelled, evening events did not take place, people stayed at home, avoiding nipping to the local dry cleaners, unless absolutely necessary. That meant we were hit for a reduction in turnover by around 85%.

 

We have struggled on, reducing trading hours and the hours of our staff. We had too close on occasions because our lovely staff had high risk family members or childcare issues due to schools being closed. Despite their cut in hours, they have stuck with me and in return I want to save their jobs and livelihoods.

 

During the whole pandemic we received very little government support.  Furlough was a god send helping to keep the staff in a job, but this has now ended and the shop is once again responsible for paying wages.

 

Southwell Dry Cleaners is a community hub, where residents used to come to meet and do their washing, we service local businesses such as hair dressers and guest houses as well as restaurants and personal cleaning services. We are asking for your help to be able to keep doing this.

 

This long established family business does not want to close because of a germ :-(

 

Help us raise enough to get back on our feet and keep the business going.

 

Your support would mean the world too us and would mean Southwell and the surrounding area would continue receive our first class laundry and cleaning service without the inconvenience of traveling further afield. It would also mean our loyal, long serving staff would be kept in work.
