Help Soy Niña raise $45,540 to empower vulnerable girls in Costa Rica.
Founded in 2018, Soy Niña implements weekly girls’ clubs, Club Niña and Club Cole, to support adolescent girls. The clubs provide a safe space for girls to engage in self-discovery and empowerment through programs which aim to prevent early pregnancies and gender-based violence. The clubs operate concurrently with the public education system’s academic calendar with the goal of accompanying girls as they pursue their education. Soy Niña’s clubs focus on a number of topics, including self-awareness and self-esteem, assertive communication, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, menstrual health management, navigating relationships, gender identity, and sexual and reproductive health.
Within the communities Soy Niña serves, gender inequality creates significant risks and vulnerabilities for young girls. Rates of violence in Costa Rica have grown steadily in the past years, further contributing to problems within families like lack of access to education, poverty, sexual violence, and drug and alchool abuse. Soy Niña aims to address these problems through its clubs by creating a space where girls feel safe and heard. Through mentorship and training, girls will be empowered to understand the value of their voice and that they are capable of making positive changes in their families and communities. Soy Niña’s programming will show girls how education is an important tool in combating these problems, encouraging young girls to stay in school and strive for their goals.
Soy Niña has already seen a positive impact on the girls it serves. In annual evaluation surveys, many participants reported feeling more confident in themselves and their academics. Girls also spoke about improved interpersonal relationships at home and in their communities. Survey results showed that the club programs taught girls how to make positive decisions, respond to bullying, and identify violence. Girls also viewed the clubs as safe spaces where they were cared for and supported. With your help, Soy Niña hopes to continue its programming and share these impacts with more girls. Funding from this campaign will support at least 200 girls and indirectly impact over 500 community members on a yearly basis. Join Soy Niña in empowering girls to find their voice, make informed decisions about their lives, and change cycles of harm in their communities. Donate to this campaign and share it with others!
