Helping African Kids in Need
My name is John Hawkins and I am trying to raise money that I can take with me on my upcoming trip to Africa. (Mozambique in December) I will be donating the funds directly to families in need that I meet while I am there. I have already completed one fundraiser in Seoul, Korea with my friends and we raised about 500$ for the cause. https://youtu.be/ZA0mBveKz3g
In 2013, I was in africa for over a year traveling (backpacking). I started in Uganda, went all the way down to Cape Town, and made my way back up to Egypt. For the majority of the trip, I was hitchhiking and camping my way through the continent. I was greeted with nothing but amazing people and stories to share for a lifetime. Although these people have nothing, they were always willing to help me in anyway they could. They Let me camp in their village, gave me rides to the next town, or showed me where the best restaurants were to eat etc.
The poverty in Africa is a very sad reality that will be hard to overcome for this generation and the next. In Mozambique, I actually saw many dead bodies of people who had been infected with Malaria and were too poor to receive any sort of treatment.
Although many of these people have nothing, they stay positive, they fight for whats right and they have great intelligence of the land and their surroundings beyond anything i have seen before. It was through my personal encounters with individuals on the trip that made me realize how important it is to give back to people like this. Most had never even seen a city, taken a bus, or left their local village. All things we do on a regular basis, are things these people. Don't even know how to dream about because they are so far separated from them.
Here is a quote I wrote when I was leaving Africa
"Africa is the kinda place that everybody needs to see, it cant be described by those who have not been, one must be here to take in the sounds, sights, and people who make this continent the most friendly, caring, misunderstood, and crazy on this planet! i don't care what you've seen on tv, what you've heard from others, you don't know Africa unless you are hear to witness with your own eyes, travel on the insane buses with kids waving at every street stand, cellphone shop and village you pass. People helping around every corner like your part of their family and with every border you pass a new unique feature that makes every African country amazing! Before my trip i told many of my friends that this would prob be my only trip to africa, and now i realize that i will continue to come back to africa defying all reason....because T.I.A." (This is Africa)
Hope everyone can take a bit of time out of their lives to donate a bit of money to a great cause and help me make a small difference! It means so much of me to go back to Africa and be able to give all this kids and their families some money. (some money will also be used to buy necessary goods) A small amount of money can go a long way for a family that has had nothing for so long.
Please show support :)
Thanks everyone,
John
