Special Olympics Athlete, 53 time gold medalist Karissa Krater-Trinchera is hoping to further her Olympic dreams by capturing gold in the Equestrian category.
After a swim career of 17 years and 53 gold medals, a shoulder injury sustained in a tragic car accident forced Special Olympian Karissa Trinchera to retire from the sport of swimming. Not content with sitting on the sidelines, Karissa took up a new sport, EQUESTRIAN GAMES. Karissa began riding in 2020 on her leased horse Kodiak. Kodiak, once a big deal in the hunter/jumper arena slowed down his pace after an injury himself. Kodiak and Karissa were the perfect match! Karissa and Kodiak began competing together in MAINSTREAM Equestrian competitions as the only Special Needs rider, and in their first event... A BLUE RIBBON, and it continued from there.
Karissa plans to continue competing in Equestrian sports, in mainstream competitions, blazing a trail for those with disabilities in the equestrian world, and has set her sights on the Special Olympics World Games in the near future. However, recently Kodiak has been struggling. His prior injury is causing problems and, after turning 20 this past June, it has been determined that it is time for Kodiak to hang up his jumping boots and enter a well deserved retirement.
On to our next chapter! Karissa's trainer has a specific horse she is looking for to meet Karissa's unique needs. Yes, an abandoned love bug from a kill pen would be AMAZING but for what Karissa needs, her trainer feels a specific breed and horse of impeccable training is the safest and best option for this Olympic hopeful. The initial investment is our roadblock and why we are seeking help. The monthly board/train is covered, we just need to get the horse. The money raised through this GoFundMe will go toward the purchase of Karissa's next Olympic partner, transport to our home state of Idaho and Veterinary certification.
