Specialist Care at Mayo Clinic Needed

Dear Friends. I never thought I would be in this situation. I’ve raised a lot of money for other people and causes I believe in, but this time I need your help with something affecting me and my family personally.
For the past several months, I have been suffering from a “mystery illness” which my local team of medical providers have only recently identified as a Mast Cell Activation Disorder. This is a rare condition which most doctors have little to no familiarity or experience with.
What began in July as mild brain fog and dizziness has evolved into an aggressive assault on my neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems.
Every day has become a crisis management effort to avoid triggers such as food, medicine, heat, stress, exercise, or even chemicals and odors. Daily symptoms include dramatic facial flushing, intense burning in my abdomen and chest, profuse sweating, neuropathic pain in my arms, blurry vision, unstable blood pressure, dizziness, anaphylaxis, and more.
We have exhausted our local medical providers over the past three months. They have run every test imaginable. Unfortunately our insurance has not covered some of our expenses, and the medical bills have quickly grown to an amount we are struggling to manage. Furthermore, it is likely we will need ongoing care from specialists far from home, including the Mayo Clinic in Arizona which requires a significant deposit prior to being seen by one of their providers.
This is the purpose of this fundraiser. We are hoping to generate enough to proceed with the first of many appointments beginning sometime in November.
We were hoping to raise enough money by liquidating a portion of our business inventory, but it’s proven more difficult than we imagined, and this year has been the slowest we have had in more than twenty years in operation.
Add to that the fact they discovered a cancerous tumor on my kidney during the routine procedures and scans looking for the cause of my symptoms, and you can see how significantly we have been impacted. I am only managing at about half capacity, and most of my time and energy is spent with doctors, specialists, labs, insurance companies, and scheduling desks, etc.
My wife has had to double and triple down by carrying the bulk of the burden to provide for our family while at the same time helping to take care of me when I can’t do it myself.
Several people have reached out privately asking us if we had considered launching a fund raiser like this one. Many have encouraged us to do so. We realize not everyone is in a position to patronize my business, but many would like to help and hopefully this will give those people an opportunity to give even if it’s only a little. Every single cent helps at this point.
