Specialized Training in Mushroom Cultivation

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Bemeriki Bisismwa and I’m aiming to raise £2,800 to bring important more specialized mushroom farming to our refugee camp in Uganda. With the help of a supporter friend in London we created this page.

I am the founder of the refugee-led organisation Rwamwanja Rural Foundation, and I’ve been offered a chance to attend specialized mushroom farming training with the MYCELIA ACADEMY in Germany early 2025.

Ask me about Mushrooms!
The specialized training will enable us to transfer advanced mushroom cultivation techniques to the refugee community my foundation serves. Your assistance in funding this training will contribute to sustainable development, improved livelihoods, and enhanced food security for refugees.

The funds will be used to cover the costs of the training, travel, and accommodation. This training is not just for me but my entire community. Rwamwanja is home to nearly 70,000 Congolese nationals who have fled the M23 Rebellion and ongoing violence.

Why This Matters
This training will enable us to improve spore selection, handling, and storage at the Rwamwanja Rural Foundation. The impact will be immense— boosting mushroom production, empowering more refugees with valuable skills, generating sustainable income, improving nutrition, and promoting environmentally friendly farming practices.

Here’s what I will learn:

Mother culture production: I’ll gain expertise in creating and maintaining pure mushroom cultures, which are essential for producing high-quality spawn.
Liquid culture production: I’ll be trained in the production and use of liquid cultures, which will increase spawn efficiency and productivity.
Growing button mushrooms in environmentally friendly conditions: I’ll learn techniques for growing button mushrooms in confined spaces—perfect for refugee settlements where land is limited.

How it all Started!
My story was featured in ‘The Permaculturist,’ a documentary made to mark World Refugee Day. I encourage you to watch it and learn more about the work we’re doing:

Your support means the world to me and the entire community here in Rwamwanja.

Thanks so much - your help makes change!
