Spencer, Iowa Emergency Flood Relief

Tax deductible
Thursday, 6/27 — UPDATE:
Wow, thank you everyone who has donated to our fundraiser the past few days. We are beyond grateful for your generous giving. This fundraiser will be ending shortly so we can get funds to GACO asap.

For those still looking to donate, we'd like to direct you to The Clay County Community Foundation.

The foundation is associated with the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines which provides grants and support to non-profits and municipalities in Clay County and disperses those funds to organizations helping individuals in need.

The foundation says all money donated to the foundation stays in the Clay County area and the foundation’s committee can act quickly to release funds to organizations who need it the most.

The foundation also says their focus, as of now, is to quickly assist those affected by the disaster in Clay County. All monetary donations can be donated to the foundation’s website. Direct donation link here.

Thank you again for your compassion and support during this critical time.

Saturday, 6/22 — WHAT'S HAPPENING:
Spencer, Iowa is currently facing an unprecedented flood emergency. Heavy rains have caused the Little Sioux and Ocheyedan rivers to overflow, leading to historic levels of flooding throughout the city. Emergency crews have been tirelessly working to assist citizens, with roads into Spencer now closed for safety.

The city's infrastructure has been severely impacted, including the inundation of the sewer plant, rendering it inoperable. As a result, residents are without essential sewer services for the next 24-48 hours, with ongoing updates from authorities.

To compound matters, Black Hills Energy is preparing to shut off gas services as a precautionary measure, emphasizing the critical nature of this emergency.

Your support is urgently needed to aid Spencer residents during this challenging time. Funds raised will hopefully* go directly towards:

  • Emergency Supplies: Providing essentials such as food, water, and hygiene products to displaced families and those sheltering in place.

  • Support for Evacuation: Assisting with evacuation efforts, ensuring that residents have safe temporary accommodations.

  • Recovery and Rebuilding: Helping to rebuild infrastructure and support the community as they recover from the aftermath of this devastating flood.

*Allocation of funds raised are ultimately determined by Grand Avenue Community Outreach (GACO).

Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful impact in alleviating the hardships faced by our neighbors in Spencer. Your generosity will directly contribute to the relief and recovery efforts in our community.

Thank you for your compassion and support during this critical time.
