Spencer Stephens Memorial Billboard
On November 30th, 2020, at 1:11am, standing in a Trauma room at Tampa General Hospital, my life was flipped upside down and completely demolished.
My 18 year old son, Spencer Stephens, had been hit on the interstate heading back to college from Thanksgiving weekend with his family. He did not survive his injuries.
I will never know the depth of Spencer’s reach on this earth. He was a social media influencer for American Eagle, a young man of faith who invited countless people to church and attended dozens of church camps, an actor, dancer, and singer in theater productions, a talented saxophone player in the band, the high school news tv producer and anchor, and the 2019 homecoming king who walked with an iconic strut and purple hair! Most importantly, he was a kind and warm smile to so many people facing tough days. He was there to encourage and help friends, family members, teachers, coworkers, and even strangers. He was definitely famous in a small town!
I had a vision driving back home on that very same interstate at 5am. I knew I NEEDED to see Spencer’s FACE every single day and I NEEDED to keep his name and spirit alive. How do I do that?
With a Memorial billboard!
Afterall, Spencer always said, “go big or go home!”
I have been blessed to raise my two children in an amazing community, and they made that wish happen for me! I got a billboard, artwork, and the month of January all donated. I was truly blown away. Some days, the only reason I get up off the couch and leave my house is to go visit Spencer’s billboard.
They say, “An Angel Mother’s job is to keep her child's memory alive.” It is now my ultimate goal to keep the billboard up for a year, or as long as I possibly can! While Spencer’s job here on earth may have been done, I still believe he can continue to spread his sparkle and remind everyone to be true and authentic to themselves.
I have February paid and I have May paid as a Mothers Day gift from a fierce group of Mom’s. I need 9 months covered to keep the billboard up for at least a year. Each month is $800. Asking for donations is a very hard thing for me to do, but to honor my extraordinary son is all I have left to do.
We appreciate you all more than you know!!
