Spencer’s Catalina Classic for charity

Donation protected

On August 29th 2021 I will be participating in the 41st annual Catalina Classic 32 mile paddle marathon, paddling from Catalina Island to Manhattan Beach, CA on a board, using only my hands.

I would like to use this race as a fundraising vehicle for a few organizations that I really value the work they are doing. My goal is to raise $1,000 each for the following charities, any amount raised will be divided evenly between the following organizations:

Border Kindness

https://borderkindness.org/about/

Border Kindness began in the fall of 2018 as a direct response to the “migrant caravans” leaving impoverished Central American countries on a quest for a better life. From our earliest days, we have provided asylum-seekers, migrants, refugees, and the displaced with comprehensive services that include food, shelter, clothing, medical care and legal services. Our programs and interventions are designed to identify, protect and nurture the most vulnerable, including women, children, elderly and families. Border Kindness believes everyone should have the opportunity to live free of pain, hunger, intimidation, and fear. We believe everyone is our neighbor.

Feed the streets LA

https://www.feedthestreets.info/

We work to provide the basic needs of those who find themselves the most challenged.

We are a community-based mutual aid organization that collects donated food, hygiene products, clothing, and educational items for face-to-face distribution.

Our Programs:

STREET SUPPORT:

Our team hits the streets to provide support in high-volume encampment locations around Los Angeles and New York City. We bring food, clothes, supplies, first-aid, and most importantly humanity to areas and people that get ignored.

HOME SUPPORT:

Our home program uses donated funds to buy groceries for housed families deemed ‘neighbors-in-need’ within the communities we serve. Our team of volunteers are always on the lookout for new families with more mouths than food.

SKATE SUPPORT:

Our team loves how skateboarding creates a safety net for kids from unstable homes or neighborhoods. We bring gear donated by brands, as well as professional skaters to hang and mentor young skaters in low-income neighborhoods.

S3X SUPPORT:

At FTS we believe that sex work is real work. Our dedicated team of female identifying volunteers listens to sex workers in the street to build supply kits. Face-to-face kit distribution/outreach is always offered with an open mind and an open heart.

WHAT WE DO

Build Relationships

We create non-judgmental connections with people who use drugs and their communities.

Support Healthy Decisions

People set their own health goals – through collaboration we assist them as they move towards their goals.

Expand Access to Healthcare

We support people as they begin new relationships with health care providers.

Promote Supportive Communities

We train health departments, law enforcement, service providers and other community members on working with people who use drugs. We support people who use drugs as they advocate for themselves. We raise awareness of issues that impact the lives of our participants.
