Spike Needs a New Shell
Tax deductible
We need your help to save Spike and have a new shell made for him. We've already found the firm that can help us engineer a solution, but his medical care, travel and testing, and materials for a custom-fitted, prosthetic carapace will be expensive. Thank you for your help in saving this gentle giant who came to us as a rescue, after his family abandoned him to Animal Control.
Read more about what happened to Spike, here:
In March, 2020, right before everything shut down for COVID-19, a fire broke out in the enclosure for our African-spurred tortoise, Spike. We will never know how or what/who started the fire, but we are committed to caring for Spike who has been a huge part of our environmental education programs and an excellent ambassador for the butterflies.
Please watch to learn more about Spike's journey to recovery. He is a burn victim in need of prolonged and intensive care--and a prosthetic carapace to replace his, which will never grow back. Please contribute to his recovery fund, if you can. Every dollar helps.
