Spinal Rehabilitation & Mobility for Chris Barkley

Donation protected
Update (as of March 24th):  Chris needed to have skin-flap surgery on March 21st for a pressure wound (bed sore) that had developed early on in his care. The wound had been preventing him from being able to do a lot of rehabilitation. We are so thankful the surgery went well. He is recovering at a wound-care facility in Denver for an unknown number of weeks. We are hoping for a strong recovery and anxiously awaiting his return to Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO, where he can continue his rehabilitation journey. WIN THE DAY, CHRIS!

Update (as of February 7th):
We are excited to report that Chris has successfully moved from ICU to Craig Hospital in Colorado where he will begin his rehabilitation soon. After several tests, a comprehensive rehab plan will be developed. Chris knows the process will be tough, but he’s ready to take on the challenge and work to gain back as much mobility as he can. Thanks again for your support.

Update (as of January 27th):
Chris has just completed his fifth surgery since the accident. The purpose of these surgeries is to give more stability and strength to his neck and back. He has regained some movement in his right arm and has some sensation in his feet. The surgeons and staff at Kootenai Medical Center have been instrumental in his progress with the hopes of getting him into a rehab center with the program that best meets his needs.

On January 19th, one day before his 26th birthday, Chris was skiing with friends on Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg, Idaho, when a bad fall left him paralyzed (c3-c6 vertebrae.) He is currently in ICU and recovering from a complicated surgery. He is in the acute recovery phase now, and from there will progress to rehabilitation.

As his care continues, his family and friends are planning for his immediate and future needs. With the goal of giving Chris as much mobility and opportunity as possible, here are a few goals you can help with:

-Medical Costs
-Spinal Rehabilitation Center Costs
-Motorized Wheelchair
-Home Renovations to accommodate Disabled Persons

*The possibilities with rehabilitation are unknown at this time, but this will be the single most important (and expensive) factor in regaining function! We are hopeful that he will be able to regain arm function, and he is ready to give his all to reach that goal.

Chris is a selfless, protective, hard worker that goes above and beyond for those he cares about. We hope to extend the same love and commitment to him, and hope that you can partner with us.

If you have questions about how these funds will be used, please contact Emily Barkley (younger sister.) If you are unable to give here, and are interested in providing help in other ways, please contact MaKenna Smith (close friend of Chris.)
