Help Pasha Walk: A Story of Hope and Determination
Pasha Shupylo, a bright and energetic 3.6-year-old boy, faces a daily challenge: Cerebral Palsy (spastic tetraparesis, GMFCS level 4). Born prematurely at 33 weeks, Pasha's early days were spent fighting for each breath. Despite these hurdles, Pasha's spirit shines through.
A Fighter from the Start:
Pasha spent his first 14 days battling, receiving support from CPAP and a ventilator. This early struggle left its mark with stage 2 PVL (periventricular leukomalacia). While Pasha doesn't have hydrocephalus or epilepsy, his mobility is significantly impacted by spasticity.
His Current Journey:
Pasha's parents, Oleksandra and Dima Shupylo, tirelessly work to give him every chance to reach his full potential. He undergoes daily physiotherapy (30-45 minutes), attends occupational therapy (1-2 times a week), and wears AFOs (ankle-foot orthoses) for a limited time due to discomfort. Despite these efforts, spasticity, particularly in his legs, continues to limit his mobility.
A Glimpse of Hope:
Botox injections offered a temporary reprieve, but their effectiveness waned quickly. Pasha's parents discovered Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening (SPML)surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that could significantly improve his ability to walk and stand.
Why We Need Your Help:
SPML surgery offers Pasha a chance to experience a world without constant struggle. Unfortunately, this life-changing procedure is not covered by their current insurance. The cost of the surgery is a significant barrier, but Pasha's parents refuse to let finances dim their son's bright future.
Pasha's twin sister, Polina, is healthy and thrives. Witnessing his sister's mobility makes Pasha's limitations even more apparent. Our dream is to see Pasha keep up with his energetic sibling.
How You Can Help:
We are reaching out to the compassionate community to help Pasha walk. Every donation, big or small, brings him closer to this life-altering surgery. With your support, Pasha can trade his struggles for independence and a world of possibilities.
Together, we can help Pasha take his first steps towards a brighter future.
