Sponsor even more slow cookers for Stroud District
Donation protected
Please help Transition Stroud by sponsoring a Slow Cooker pack for a family this autumn and winter.
The cost of living crisis, rising prices and huge energy bills are now pushing many in our community into poverty. There will undoubtedly be knock-on effects on health - mental and physical - the wellbeing of children, and the sense of our community being happy and at ease with itself.
We know that putting good quality food on the table and sharing that food is part of what keeps families together. Yet the cost of food and of cooking is rising sharply. So we are asking people to sponsor or contribute to a 'Slow Cooker Pack'.
Slow cookers are highly cost-effective to use (about 15% of the cost of a conventional oven). They are very versatile - capable of cooking bread, making yogurt and cooking casseroles and stews. The pack will comprise a slow cooker, a slow cooker cookbook and recipes, and some kitchen staples.
Transition Stroud is partnering with local food hubs and community groups to ensure that the slow cooker packs are distributed to people who'll get the best from them. In addition, there will be hints and tips about simple, nutritious recipes, as well as 'chop and chat' sessions to cook meals together.
A Slow Cooker Pack will cost around £30 each, and we are asking people who can afford it to make a minimum donation of £5 towards our crowd funding target of £1500.
Transition Stroud has received £1000 from Stroud Town Council to help provide both slow cookers for Stroud Town, to be delivered through the four food hubs.
