Sponsor a String Campaign
Tax deductible
Community Music Alliance acquired a beautiful Steinway piano in early 2022. In 2024, our Steinway turned 110! Since it has been in our facility, it has been used regularly by our community members. However, the piano needed a little TLC to live up to its full potential. Our friends at Gist Piano Center have replaced the strings and hammers and made some other minor repairs (see complete repair list below). Now that it is fully refurbished, it is a top-notch instrument worth between $25,000 and $30,000.
We are continuing our Sponsor-a-String campaign so that we can fully fund this endeavor. You can:
Sponsor a single string (3 per key, except for the lowest ones) for $20
Sponsor a key (88 total) for $60
We will display each sponsor's name and brief message over the piano. Sponsors have the opportunity to select and name the string(s) they want to sponsor.
What kind of strings are we talking about? Which are still available for sponsporship? How is the campaign going so far? Look HERE for details.
The list of repairs is:
- Re-cap blown out bass bridge
- Restring the whole piano
- Repair minor cracks
- Refinish the topside of the board
- Reset down bearing
- Perform preventative work to the ribs
- Replace the damper felts since the old felts will be matched to the old strings.
- Replace the old hammers
Community Music Alliance makes music accessible to everyone in the Kentuckiana area, regardless of experience or financial status. We connect and promote local musicians, provide lessons and instruments, a recording studio and rehearsal space, offer opportunities to play with a group, and other assistance for musicians and aspiring musicians.
