Sponsor “Body Horror” a Interactive Horror Exhibit
In October 2019, I put together my first interactive horror gallery “Tulpa”, a part installation/part painted exhibit centered around the idea of phobias, specifically mine, with ties to a story that guests could discover. It was a massive success and even though it was the first time doing installations or anything that big, I learned so much from the process and seeing everyone participate with my art. I immediately wanted to plan a second show.
The pandemic put plans for a second exhibit on hold for October 2020. And instead of an exhibit, I suddenly developed internal bleeding and was rushed to the ER. I stayed in the ICU for 6 days. It was a traumatic experience and one I initially was worried I wouldn't survive. But the event gave me perspective on certain things and brought me closer to the type of horror that always affected me the most: body horror.
So I am doing what most artists do: exploring my trauma through art and inviting others to explore it with me. "Body Horror" will be an interactive art installation featuring sculpture installations and painted pieces that the audience will be allowed to touch, feel, and interact with. I'm hoping that with support and financial backing, I can put in the work to make this exhibit better than "Tulpa" and maybe let others feel what I felt.
The exhibit will premiere the first Friday of October as part of the First Friday Art Trail at Studio C of the Charles Adam Studio Project where I share a studio with other artists. There will be repeat showings the following weekends. The projected goal is a rough estimated cost of materials for some of the builds I have planned, but any funding past that amount will go to enlisting other artists' help with technical aspects like engineering and sound and potentially food costs for enlisting friends' help with grunt work. I don't plan on using any of the money to pay myself.
If you do donate, I am going to be displaying your name on a thank you plaque next to my artist statement at the gallery. I also am going to attempt to film the process and a walk through of the finished exhibit for a Making of youtube video.
I have big, weird ideas for this show. I want to turn a negative, dark experience in my life to something cool, weird, exciting, creepy, and unsettling for everyone to experience.
Thank you <3
