Hi, my name is Nina, I am 13 years old and I made a short documentary to raise money to pay for school fees for 100 Gambian teenage girls. The Gambia is one of the most poor countries in the world. Since 2002 The Gambian Children First Foundation pays the school fees for teenagers who want to follow a lower vocational education in The Gambia and who are not able to pay for those school fees themselves. Because there is no compulsory education in The Gambia (not even for primary education), many children never go to school. The sponsored schools, on top of their skills training program, therefore also pay much attention to basic subjects such as English, reading, writing and mathematics. Students are trained to be able to practice a profession such as tailor, secretary, catering, electrician, construction, etc. Research shows that education helps to solve many problems, like illegal migration into Europe, forced and/or underaged marriages, poverty, violence and abuse, etc. The costs of enrolling 1 girl is on average 165 euro's per year. This includes books, tuition fee, school uniforms and exam fees. The foundation runs on volunteers so 100% of your donation goes to sponsor the students.
