Sponsor Indian Family Musicians' First US Tour!

Introducing the Baba Fateh Singh Kirtan Jatha, affectionately known as the Wahe Guru Family. A family of musicians, they are also vessels of profound spiritual energy that transcends words. The three sisters are accomplished vocalists and instrumentalists, and their brother, also a vocalist, is a virtuoso Tabla player. Their repertoire spans classical Indian ragas, Qawwali, traditional folk, and the sacred art of Shabd Kirtan – the devotional singing of hymns from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, the central scripture of Sikhism. As you learn more about them, we hope you will join in to bring them to the United States for their first and long overdue tour!

Rooted in their Sikh faith, the Wahe Guru Family emerged from humble beginnings in Amritsar, Punjab. As children, they displayed remarkable dedication and discipline by daily rising before dawn to play kirtan before school at one of the temple complexes within the revered Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. From these early days to their current status as beloved figures in their community, their journey has been one of dedication and devotion.

Their journey holds profound significance within the Sikh musical tradition, particularly for women. A 'Jatha' refers to a musical group in Sikh tradition. While women actively participate in studying and performing Shabd Kirtan within the Sikh community, there are relatively few female Jathas who tour and travel professionally compared to their male counterparts. Despite their exceptional talent honed since their youth, opportunities for female Jathas in Shabd Kirtan have been limited. This tour aims to represent and empower women in sacred music, promoting inclusivity and diversity within the tradition.

By embarking on this 2-month tour, they aim to showcase their talents to the wider international Sikh community while also creating culturally enriching musical experiences through concert kirtans and other events."

The sponsorship funds will cover:

  • International round-trip tickets for the four members from India to the United States
  • Domestic travel within the U.S.
  • Visa processing fees
  • Visa's/Legal Fees
  • Accommodations
  • Food
  • Travel health insurance for the group
  • Other expenses to cover September 15 - December 8, 2024.

We aim to reach 1/2 of our fundraising goal by April 15th to cover visa applications and lawyer fees so please consider contributing before then to support this important initiative.

Having known and loved this family for over 13 years, it has been an incredible privilege to witness their journey and watch them grow into the remarkable musicians they are today. Their passion and dedication have always inspired me, and I'm proud to organize this support for them as they set forth on this transformative tour.

Join us in supporting the Wahe Guru Family as they embark on this journey, spreading joy, love, and spiritual connection through their music. Your contribution will make a significant difference in their lives, providing them with the opportunity for greater exposure, recognition, and empowerment within their field.

Thank you for your support!

With Heartfelt Gratitude,
Siri Sat
