Dear Donor,

My name is Stephanie Gills, I am a Junior honors student at Seton Hall, majoring in Diplomacy and International Relations. And, I am very excited to tell you that I have just been awarded a place in the 2019 French Internship Program being held at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, France.

‘The city of lights’, ‘the city of Romance’, ‘the culinary capital of the world’—Paris, France: “a rose by any other name” — to me is more than just an enchanted city in one of my grandmother’s snow globes, I really think it must have been my home in a former life—because France has always loomed large in my life, but always out of reach until now.

In fact, from Kindergarten through the 2nd Grade, I attended a French immersion school (I used to drive my brothers and sister crazy because they never knew what I what saying). I grew up and graduated from high school in the “Big Easy” Creole city of New Orleans (I can still smell the French Quarter corner bistro aromas of pralines, beignets, and bread pudding wafting across the neighborhood). At Seton Hall, I’m minoring in French, gaining more knowledge of various aspects of French and Francophone culture, including language, literature, and linguistics. And now with this internship—and hopefully with your kind and generous donations—I can finally travel to France and really learn and immerse myself in its culture firsthand.

So, let me answer two very practical questions: how will I benefit from this program? And, how much will it cost?

Question 1: How will I benefit? Pursuing studies that might lead to a career in international diplomacy requires potential candidates to spend some time studying abroad, engaging with the outside world and widening their perspectives. Yet, I have not had this crucial opportunity. This internship program provides this through fostering global partnerships and bringing together diverse students and divergent perspectives into one classroom, encouraging cultural and intellectual cross-fertilization. This will no doubt have a positive and useful effect for me as I continue my studies in the field of International Diplomacy and begin to experience the world firsthand.

Question 2: How much will it cost? Here is the total budget breakdown we were provided, which covers the tuition, the trip, and the living expenses:

--Program Fee (Tuition and fees, registration, housing): $5,095.00
--International Air Fare & Transfers (Cost varies depending on time of purchase, point of origin and time of travel): up to $1,500.00
--Immigration Requirements: $135.00
--Books, Materials and Supplies (Includes books, course fees, supplies): $126.00
--Meals (Expected cost for the meal plan and average meal costs): $865.00
--Travel and Personal Necessities Expenses (Local transportation and travel expenses; personal necessities: laundry, telephone, and medical necessities) $2,262.00

      TOTAL EXPENSES: $9,983.00

Just to note, I have already raised nearly $2,000 through working and family contributions, leaving me with about an $8,000 deficit. My internship commences on June 30th and runs through August 1st, 2019; and for me, this is a hard-earned opportunity of a lifetime. Please kindly consider helping me raise the remainder of my funds; any donation will be gratefully appreciated and put to good use so that I can successfully complete this internship.

Sincerely very grateful for your generosity and for your kindness.
