Sponsor a Mile

Donation protected
Hello! I'm Vedangi, a 19 year old student and on 25th June 2018, I'll be setting off to break the world record to be the youngest and fastest woman to circumnavigate the world by bicycle, solo and unsupported. I hope to pedal the planet in the fastest women’s time by crossing 15 countries and cycling 18000 miles. This whole expedition will be documented and made into a film with the help of two students.

Through this page, I'm aiming to crowdfund £18,000. I encourage you to sponsor me at least one mile so that I can not only pursue my dream by being able to pay for the bits and bobs along the way but also help two other young individuals take on their own adventures!

The plan is to split the funding, putting aside £8000 as an adventure grant to sponsor two young people £4000 each, based on the values of their expedition. My hope is to not only inspire young people with my own journey to go out and do some crazy adventures, however big or small but actually do something to enable them to take on their own dreams and make them a reality.

A little bit about me:

I've been obsessed with the outdoors since I was a kid, from creating high ropes in my hallways to mimic river crossings to mountaineering and summiting peaks, I directed this energy and passion into adventure cycling when I was 17 with the first of my big rides involved cycling across some of the highest passes in the Himalayas, solo.

In September 2016, I moved to the UK, desperate to create a whole new life for myself, make new friends, fit in to University. But, as always, some things don't quite work out and i didn't quite manage to do it within 6 months of moving… What I did manage to figure out though, was that I thoroughly enjoyed exploring. I spent days riding my bike (and may have cycled the length of the UK ) and realised that when outdoors, I had everything I’d ever wanted and needed. So I decided that I'd take my curiosity to explore to a whole new level (literally latitudinal) and cycle around the world hopefully using some part of my placement year.

But along with creating a purpose for my own  life, I wanted to get others involved and give them an opportunity to do what they love through this adventure.

So I turned to a few trusted friends studying media courses and who were also a part of Bournemouth University Cycling Club for help.

I thought that if I could come up with something at 19 and be fully prepared learning through the whole experience, then somebody of my age could be involved too, and grow through the experience! I asked if anybody would like to film bits of this expedition for me and I got two students - Callum Howard and Dan Woodward on board with this. We created a trailer for marketing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-DlJsBNOes and we'll be working with Anthill Films for creating a film on this adventure.

After coming this far into planning, training, raising money, panicking and planning again, I definitely know that raising money for an adventure isn't the easiest thing in the world. From having a hard time convincing the enormity of the expedition, to not getting the promised bits of sponsorship, to explaining the potential sponsors why making a film matters so much to me, it can be a daunting task. The experience of raising money and getting more people on board with this project has made me think differently and more practically, and I know it's mentally prepared me more for the actual cycling bit (which is a hell lot!). So I thought, if I could make it a lil bit easier for another young individual who's inspired by my journey to go on an adventure, then I'd actually be enabling someone to take on their dreams. This would be my way to give somebody's life a purpose or at least help them do so. And that's what I'm crowd-funding for, through this campaign #StepUpAndRideOn .
