ERA’s Sponsored Family Riverside Walk

Eco Rother Action is an independent climate change response group based in the villages between Petersfield and Midhurst. We acknowledge that the climate and biodiversity crises are intertwined and due to this we address both of these in the work we do. We host excellent talks, carry out local environmental work and bring people together.

Being situated in the beautiful Rother valley (Western Rother) we have taken a particular interest in the river, which faces so many challenges. We started monitoring the river back in 2022, recording nitrates, phosphates and other health indicators at several points on the river. This monitoring has now been taken over by Western Sussex Rivers Trust, and extended to the whole catchment (Rother and Arun). The data can be seen on the map at the bottom of this page. We are now raising funds to buy and use a Fluidion Alert One, a device which will allow us to supplement existing river surveys of the River Rother and its tributaries with testing for bacteria, specifically E. coli.
