The Hamilton based North Wall Riders Association's Steel City Chapter wants to fly Mr Ken Curry, (one of two survivng) WWII Dieppe veterans from Britsh Columbia to Hamilton, so he and his caregiver can attend the funeral of Jack McFarland.
Dieppe veteran Jack McFarland passed away this morning Feb 22, 2016 at age 95. He joined the RHLI in 1936! He was shot at Dieppe, became a POW, was sent home late in the war because of his injury, but went on to become a Hamilton Police staff-sergeant and stayed in the RHLI into the 1960's, becoming Chief Warrant Officer. He did a lot for all Hamilton veterans and was a moving force behind the creation of the Dieppe Veterans Memorial Park on the Hamilton Beach Strip. He was also the first WWII veteran to accept the NWRA Steelcity (North Wall Riders Association Steel City Chapter) into the city of Hamilton opening the doors of all veterans events and facilities in the city too us. He became an honourary member of Steel City in 2010 and is the first brother we have lost since founding this chapter.
We met Ken and Norma Curry when they were in Hamilton last Aug for the Dieppe memorial service.
Sadly Ken's wife Norma (also an WWII veteran)
passed away yesterday Feb 21, 2016. Ken will be burying his bride this week but still wants to be in Hamilton to attend the service of his brother in arms Jack. Would you please donate what you can to help us make this happen?
