Fred's journey back to health.

It is always awkward to ask for money but we want to be clear that all funds raised by this GoFundMe will be used for medical expenses and home health care for Fred.

This May Fred Stevens spent a month at University Hospital. Fred is suffering from Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). CIDP is a neurological disorder that targets the body’s nerves. CDIP is ongoing and progressive. Fred's journey with CIDP started in 2019. Back in 2020 Fred was able to relearn how to walk and made a good recovery but hard times are back.

At the worst point in early May of this year Fred was paralyzed from the neck down. He could not use his hands, could not move his arms or legs, and had a feeding tube in his nose. University Hospital gave Fred many different types of serious medical treatments but nothing seemed to work. There was fear of a ventilator being necessary for breathing. Thankfully a ventilator was not needed. Fred was not able to eat or drink for a month and had to rely on the feeding tube during this time. At one point Fred talked about longing to guzzle a gatorade.

Fred's body is starting to "wake up". He is now at Rae Ann Suburban which is a nursing home/rehabilitation facility. At Rae Ann Fred is relearning how to walk and use his body again. Last week he started eating solid food and drinking fluids after being on a feeding tube for a month. Fred has a wonderful attitude and is guided by his strong faith in god which gives him an amazing amount of peace. Due to his mental toughness Fred is making progress but he has a long way to go.

Soon, Fred will be discharged from Rae Ann Suburban. Fred can not independently walk at this time and has limited use of his arms and hands. He is facing difficulties with necessary everyday tasks. Unfortunately, Fred's health insurance will only cover so much.

Funds raised with this GoFundMe will be used only for medical expenses and home health care. We hope that money can be raised to help Fred recover.
