The Springfield Equity Scholarship needs your help to reach our goal of raising $20,000 to create an ongoing fund that will support Springfield Vermont students of color in pursuit of their passions. We are matching the first $3000 donated! Thank you so much for your support.
About the Scholarship:
The Springfield Equity Scholarship supports Springfield High School and River Valley Technical Center students from traditionally under-represented groups with funds for tuition or living expenses associated with continuing education.
The Springfield Equity Scholarship recognizes that significant wealth gaps exist between white and non-white families (the net worth of a typical white family is nearly ten times that of a Black family), arising from historic legacies as well as present-day realities of racism and discrimination. These wealth gaps can severely limit the opportunities of students of color with regard to higher education and career achievement, including in predominantly white places like Vermont.
The Springfield Equity Scholarship will provide one or more scholarships to promising students of color in the year of their graduation.
We are working with local community organizations to house this fund and create a diverse scholarship committee to select the recipients. The first awardees will be one or more graduating seniors in the class of 2021.
-------
Organized by Ariel Diamond, SHS class of 2001, Allaire Diamond, SHS class of 1997, and Nicholas Cofrancesco, SHS class of 2000.
