What does it mean to be a "Spruce Kid"? ...
1000's of us have experienced the feeling of being a skier or rider at Spruce Mountain Ski Club. Millions of memories have been made at "the slope" through the decades.
Anybody who was or is still from the tri town area of Jay Livermore and Livermore Falls knows of the hardships our small town communities are facing. Back in the glory days of the paper making industry we were blessed with the good fortune of prosperity and plentiful employment as well as a VERY strong financial support for our ski area from many of our local companies and businesses. Unfortunately those times are gone. Shrinking population and loss of jobs has made survival of Spruce Mountain very challenging for the handful of dedicated volunteers who remain.
Our annual operating costs are $60,000. With major expenses being liability insurance, wages, fuel for our electrical generator (electricity is no longer provided for free from the now closed Otis Mill) snow making, groomer/building maintenance and much more. Our local towns provide $12,000 of this budget to cover insurance costs only. The rest of the budget comes from fund raising efforts like this and our annual dance/party as well as donations from the few businesses left in town.
Help us keep the Spruce Kid experience alive. Give whatever you can spare and know that every dime of your donation will go towards giving a new "Spruce Kid" the memories we have all experienced and cherish today.
