Keep Spunk Salon open & help Suzie beat Cancer
Donation protected
On Oct 28th, 2020, after fighting to keep her small business from closing after 6+ months of mandatory lockdowns, Suzie (owner of Spunk Salon ) was diagnosed with Cancer that required immediate emergency surgery.
The good news: she's been told by her oncologists that her Cancer is *not* terminal. The bad news: she has a long road ahead - the disease has spread to her lymph nodes and will require at least 3 months of intense, daily radiation, and 7 rounds/wks of weekly chemotherapy.
But back to the good news... She's a Scorpio (dyke) & ready to kick cancer's ass and fight! We've started this gofundme campaign in the hopes that it might help Suzie focus 100% on getting better. We believe her health and recovery can be lifted and sped up by/with community support taking a bit of this financial burden off of her.
(SF Pride, during mandatory shutdown, June 2020)
Suzie fought hard this year to keep Spunk Salon from permanently closing due to the pandemic. She has self-funded this effort entirely on her own (since March 2020) by using her own retirement savings to pay for the salon rent, bills, and overhead while the space was forced to be closed. This Cancer setback impacts her ability to generate any income, in an already trying year. She is unable to shoulder these long-term expenses on her own for more than a few months. To add insult to injury, because she is an independent contractor/1099 she does not qualify for any disability income as a self-employed small business owner. She will do her best to keep the salon open for as long as she/we can, but if you can support her and Spunk Salon with any donation (no amount is too small!), it will help sustain an LGBTQ+, womxn owned business 13 years strong.

Thank you for any support you can offer and for any good vibes you can send Suzie's way. We hope to see you all on the other side of this pandemic in 2021 at Spunk Salon!
