I know we have been able to keep some of our family updated but we have lots so this is going to be the easiest way. PLEASE we are asking for all prayers for our son Isaiah. What went from a fall happening at school lead us to being told our son has a tumor on his brain. We waited 5 hours in hospital in McPherson when me and Isaiah loaded into a helicopter and was flown to children’s mercy in Kansas City. AJ and Ethan both are up here with us as well.
This is what we know as of now:
There is a large mass centered centrally within the cerebellum and fourth ventricle, which measures 4.4 x 4.0 x 5.7 cm. This mass is overall hyperattenuating with small cystic regions. No coarse calcifications are seen. This mass results in obstructive hydrocephalus and transependymal flow of CSF. Maximum width of the third ventricle measures 1.6 cm. Bifrontal width measures 4.6 cm. Large posterior fossa mass centered in the cerebellum and fourth ventricle measuring up to 5.7 cm. Findings are most compatible with a primary malignancy such as a medulloblastoma.
Since we have been in KC a couple of hours this is the plan of action:
He has a mass in the back of his head basically by the spinal fluid pockets by the ventricles causing spinal fluid to not drain. They will be placing a tube in first thing in the morning and then plan to take a MRI. Once we know what kind of mass/tumor we are dealing with we will then know surgery plan. Sounds like surgery will be Monday. He has Hydrosphalus which is very concerning.
Everyone please keep him in your prayers as well as all of our other kiddos while we are away from them and helping bubba get better.
Another update:
Isaiah is out of surgery. Everything went well. They ended up having two surgeons in the room to be able to make it go a tad bit faster. His breathing tube is out. We even got to speak to the surgeon already and here is that update:
1) It’s called a Small Round Blue Cell Tumor ( we will have more of a name of what it is when pathology comes back)
2) She believe she got it all out however, they will do a follow up MRI tomorrow to confirm.
3) Tumor has a lot of cells in it.
4) He will be having to have more therapy such as chemo or radiation therapy.
5) We will know more in couple days as far as tumor goes from the pathology results.
Thank you all for all the continued prayers. Please keep them coming as it sounds like there is going to be a lot more recovery.
ICP is being monitor right now. This will monitor the intracranial pressure around his brain.
Blood in the vertical system due to removing the tumor.. that can make kids irritable and not act right.
He is experiencing Posterior Fossa Syndrome. Which is identified by a collection of symptoms including reduced or absent speech, irritability, low muscle tone, unsteadiness and reduced coordination and the inability to coordinate voluntary movements. This could take MONTHS to correct. This can be corrected with physical therapy, speech therapy, and everything else.
As always please keep these prayers coming ❤️
