Squil's Wheelchair Fund

Hi, my name is Robin Thompson, husband of Helen, better known to her friends and family, and the internet, as Squil.

Squil is a mother of two gorgeous girls, a musician (a vocalist in fact with a lovely contralto voice), and a crazy cat lady

To cut a very long story short, she suffered with Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) through both pregnancies. This coupled with hypermobility and being overweight was a recipe for disaster. After years of walking with crutches and finding her world got smaller and smaller, she decided to bite the bullet and accept that she really was disabled and needed to think and act accordingly. The purchase of a traditional self-propelled wheelchair has increased her access to the world but she is very much reliant on me to get her around. She has little independence and she finds this a big struggle. Even doing things like popping to the shop are impossible without the aid of someone else. As for singing - well opportunities are limited and her lovely voice is wasted.

So we know we need to do something different in order to get her back to some level of normality and I would love for her to swap her old wheelchair for a new, powered wheelchair - the aptly named Freedom chair. The challenge is putting the funds together to get her one. It will cost around £3,000 which is money we just don't have. It will take a few years to save that amount up and in the meantime Squil's world just continues to get smaller and smaller.

So this is why I'm asking for help. The fundraising we have done so far has got us just over £1,000 so we've made a big dent in our target. If you can help to make that dent a little bigger and get us a step closer, both Squil and I would be so thankful!
