Help Lloyd fight aggressive prostate cancer. He has no hospitalization insurance and has hospital bills in excess of $200,000.00.
Lloyd served our country spending 6 years and 10 months as a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force. After he was honorably discharged, he continued working in the field contracting as an aircraft mechanic. He was working as a contract worker in Tulsa, Oklahoma when he became ill.
Lloyd went to the emergency room in Tulsa, Oklahoma in August 2018 with severe stomach pain. After a CT scan was performed it was clear he needed to have his gallbladder removed ASAP, as it was very inflamed and full of gallstones. Unfortunately, the scan also showed a large tumor on his right adrenal gland that appeared to be cancerous. After further testing and blood work, he was found to also to have an enlarged prostate. He was scheduled for a biopsy of his adrenal gland, but it was found to be to close to his lung and the biopsy could not be performed in fear of puncturing the lung. The decision was made to go ahead and perform surgery to remove the adrenal gland and take a biopsy of his prostate during surgery. Lloyd had to wait until he healed to have this surgery. In October 2018, he had the surgery to remove the tumorous adrenal gland. The tumor was also attached to the liver resulting in a portion of the liver being removed. He also had the prostate biopsy taken. Fortunately, the adrenal gland tumor was negative, but the prostate was cancerous. After discussions with his doctor, they were advised that the course of treatment would be to remove the prostate and possibly have radiation treatments in the future. He would again have to wait six weeks to heal from surgery before he could have his prostate removed.
The prostatectomy was scheduled for December 10, 2018. His surgery went very well, but the doctor stated it was more complicated than he anticipated. The cancer was more aggressive than he originally thought. The anticipated hospital stay would be 2-3 days, but complications after surgery required him to stay 8 days. The first night after surgery he had severe abdominal pain. His blood pressure and heart rate were staying very high and was hard to control. A CT scan was performed on his abdomen showing a very large blot clot in his pelvis area. His doctor hoped his body would absorb the blood clot so he would not require more surgery. His blood count became low and he was given two units of blood. He was very weak and had no appetite. He was on IV fluids and antibiotics. He had a drainage tube coming from his and abdomen and a catheter.
When Lloyd was discharged from the hospital the drainage tube was removed. On Thursday, December 20, 2018 his catheter was removed, and he was given the okay to go back home to Tennessee when he felt like he could make the 12-hour trip. Lloyd and Misti were excited about being home for their only grandchild’s first Christmas. Sadly, they missed being home for Christmas, as well their grandsons first Christmas as Lloyd was re-admitted to the hospital.
On Saturday December 22nd he returned to the emergency room as he was very weak with no energy, could not urinate, and had no appetite. He was admitted to the hospital with dehydration, high white blood count and urinary tract infection. A scan was performed of his abdomen and it was found that he had a tear in his bladder and urine was leaking into his pelvis. He had the drain replaced to his low pelvis area and the catheter reinserted. After a six day stay in the hospital and upon discharge the doctor stated since he had a tear in his bladder and it was leaking into his pelvis, he will be discharged from the hospital with the drain and catheter. He also told him he was not out of the woods yet and another surgery could be necessary. He stated Lloyd would have the catheter for at least six to eight weeks to let the bladder heal.
Lloyd got his first job at age 16 and has always been a hard worker, providing for his family. He is a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He is always the first to help family, friends, neighbors and anyone in need. He needs your help now. He has not been able to work since August. His wife has worked very little as she has been by Lloyd’s side.
I am Lloyd’s sister-in-law and am asking for help for him. He would never ask anyone for anything. I will be managing the account with my sister, his wife Misti. As Lloyd is a contract worker and does not have hospitalization insurance his hospital bills are in excess of $200,000.00 to date. He could possibly be facing more surgery and radiation, which would lead to rising medical costs.
