Santa Rosa Junior College Baseball Assistant Coach Sam Gomes has recently been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

The Santa Rosa Junior College Baseball Team is asking for all Bear Cub Alumni, Family, and Friends of the program to help raise funds to assist Sam defray some of the costs with his future medical needs.

Sam played Baseball for the Bear Cubs from 1980-83 and then transferred to play for Chico State in 1985-86. Sam then began coaching for the Wildcats for the next 2 years followed by 2 years at Napa College. In 1989 Sam returned home to SRJC to be an Assistant working with the catcher's for the next 5 years. The next 13 years he coached at various High Schools including Windsor, Piner, and his Alma Matter, Santa Rosa High. In 2008 Sam returned to SRJC and helped the Bear Cubs to 3 CCCAA State Final Four appearances.

Sam states, "I've always viewed myself as an 'under the radar, behind the scenes guy'. I just wanted to help my players and teammates accomplish all of their goals."
Time for Bear Cub Nation to put Sam Gomes front and center.

The SRJC Baseball Team appreciates all the support Sam will receive from the Bear Cub Family. Updates will be posted as they become available.
