Help "Lift" the Abbotts!

Caroline Abbott is a sweet 7 year old girl who attends Cunningham Creek Elementary as a second grade student in Mrs. Greenberg’s Varying Exceptionalities class. She has a rare genetic condition known as Mosaic Triploidy. Currently, there are only 66 known cases of this chromosomal disorder in the world. Caroline lives in St. Johns County, FL with her mom, Kim, and sister, Carley.  Kim is a third grade teacher at CCE and a single mom.  Carley, age 10, also attends CCE.

Mosaic Triploidy affects Caroline’s growth, muscle strength, lungs, spine, social, cognitive, emotional development as well as her mobility. Despite that, she is able to recognize her name as well as all of her classmates’ names. She recognizes all 26 letters and phonetic sounds and is able to read simple sentences. However, due to her inability to walk, she is wheelchair bound. Kim, Caroline’s mother, must lift Caroline everywhere: from her chair to her bed, bath, van, etc.  She must also lift the chair into the van which is extremely heavy.  As Caroline grows, this becomes increasingly difficult for both of them.  The Abbott family has been on the state of Florida waiting list for assistance for 6 ½ years.  Our goal is to raise the funds, $24,000, to obtain and install a van lift system so as Caroline grows, she can continue to be transported outside of the home without potential harm to herself or Kim.
