Help the Higgins

Jim and Stephanie started having financial difficulties in the summer of 2022. Stephanie was very sick with diverticulitis and spent four weeks in the hospital over two months, culminating in a bowel resection surgery. Stephanie recovered and started a new job in September, but was laid off in January. This is when their financial troubles took a turn for the worse. With the high cost of food, and medical bills, they started falling behind on everything, but especially rent. They were able to get caught up when they received their tax return in February, but fell behind again in March and were never able to recover. They tried to pay March's rent in late April but the account had already been turned over to a lawyer and the rental agent wouldn't accept their partial payment.

Their eviction trial date is July 6th. They are doing everything they can to not be homeless, as they have nowhere to go if the eviction goes through. This has been especially hard on Stephanie, who just needed another surgery for a hernia on May 16th. It is also hard on their two sons, who don't completely understand why this is happening to them.
